Hearth & Remai Modern -SK

Another outing in Saskatoon!

To be honest, I do not have a ton of free time here in Saskatoon… Being a visiting student on such a tight timeline (running two experiments and all of the labwork for both before getting back to ON for my summer grazing experiments) has me in the lab at least one day of every weekend, and on weekdays, I am in from ~8 or 9am until 7 or 8pm. I am learning a LOT, but it can be isolating to not have much time to get off campus! Hearth is a restaurant within the Remai Modern Art museum, so it is easy to make an afternoon out of the two activities!

Remai has several galleries across three floors that have ever-changing exhibits. There are a couple of installations that have stayed constant between the first time I went in 2024 and this time again in 2026 such as the neon signs in this picture! I didn’t take other pictures in the gallery, you’ll have to check it out for yourself!

Gallery entrance is free, but donations are encouraged!

At Hearth, Dunk and I started with an espresso martini and a beer. There was a fish and beer special on!

The fish that came with the beer were smoked trout cakes and beer-battered pike. The tartar sauce the fish was on was the perfect complement to both!

We also had a ploughman’s snack. This was not a favourite for Dunk, but I loved it!!

He is not a pickle or sourkraut fan, but I love them. He did enjoy the andouille sausage and cheddar spread with the flax and rye crackers though!

And he always enjoys a deviled egg.

The last food item we tried was the beef. It was braised beef chuck, spatzle, roasted mushrooms, pickles, mustard and sour cream sauce.

Again, he is not a pickle man (but this meal was for my birthday so I got to pick hehe).

It was delish! I think the pickles within the spatzle were fun. I got a higher pickle to spatzle ratio than normal since Dunk pushed all the pickles onto my half of the plate haha.

We were too full for dessert but I did have a second drink. It was called Dad’s New Paralyzer, a rum and root beer drink. They make their root beer in-house, and it is so yummy!!!

It basically tastes like a grown-up root beer float.

Cheers!

I’m Katie

I’m so glad you’re here! What I really hope for with this blog is a creative outlet for myself. Whenever I feel myself getting into a rut with school I try to get creative in the kitchen, get crafting, or get reading and it usually gets me back on track. I also love camping and trying new things so this will be a real mishmash of my life!
