Little Grouse on the Prairie – SK

Suprise! I am away from the University of Guelph for the semester and am instead in the freezing city of Saskatoon at the University of Saskatchewan. In this semester away from home, I am running some experiments for my PhD, but also have the opportunity to explore some new to me places and try some yummy restaurants.

My husband came to Saskatoon over the school’s reading week for a visit and this was his best meal of the week he was here.

It was brutally cold for many of the days he was here, and we are both foodies, so spending some time in restaurants really was no chore! He was here through Valentine’s Day and my birthday as well, so lots to celebrate!

I can’t seem to remember the name of the drink that I ordered, but I do remember I thought it was yummy, and hubs thought it was bitter and too strong (lol).

We split a small plate to start: the arugula, balsamic dressing, crispy onion, and parmesan salad. It was approximately 50% cheese, 50% salad, which is 100% the correct ratio in my books. Delish!

For our mains, Dunk got the shrimp linguini with garlic, chili flake, parm, white wine, and lemon, and I got the beet cappelletti with panna acida, shallot, and dill.

These were both PERFECT. My little beet cappelletti sat in sour cream with dill butter drizzled over and finished with parm it was so unique and hit a craving I had been having for borscht!

Dunk’s was the lighter option of the two but was no less delish!

We finished with a deconstructed black forest cake/mousse. It was rich and creamy and they used sour cherries (which are the best kind, if you don’t agree, you are wrong!). It was balanced and the perfect way to end the meal!

Was this an expensive meal… Yes, yes it was.

BUT would I go back… Yes, yes I would!!!!!

I might have to go here to celebrate being done with my experiments before I head home.

I’m Katie

I’m so glad you’re here! What I really hope for with this blog is a creative outlet for myself. Whenever I feel myself getting into a rut with school I try to get creative in the kitchen, get crafting, or get reading and it usually gets me back on track. I also love camping and trying new things so this will be a real mishmash of my life!
