DIY Wreath Workshop – The Saol Project

As a present to myself for finishing my Fall 2025 pasture trial I booked myself a date at The Saol Project, a Guelph flower farm and design studio, when I saw them advertise their annual wreath workshop!

There were about 10 of us learning how to make wreaths plus our wonderful host, Hannah!

The studio is a screened in area, so she had a wood stove and some hot apple cider ready for us all to stay warm while we crafted! It is a really beautiful studio with brick and tile and wood beams across the ceiling. She had an 80s playlist going which was perfect, no Christmas music until December please!

I don’t remember all of the types of branches she had for us but the ones I do remember are: boxwood, cedar, magnolia, Douglas fir, and a lemon-y scented one that I can’t remember!

We all had a metal wreath frame, wire, and she gave us the different branches one type at a time to cut up and bunch to our liking.

I made larger bunches and ended up with a pretty wide wreath haha.

The magnolia’s were so vibrant with their orange leather-y side, but I think my favourite was the cedar! The scent of all the greenery being cut up while everyone was working was so nice, I wish I could bottle it for perfume 🙂

To make the bunches we selected around three to 5 of the little branches we cut and used wire to tightly twist-tie up the ends. This was trickier than I expected at the start but Hannah gave us some pro tips and everything was smooth sailing from there!

Once all the bunches were made we started securing them to the wreath frame by wrapping the wire around the bunched end and the frame several times before adding another piece and repeating around the whole frame.

Then we got to add ribbons and ornaments to our liking, I went with red ribbons and tied them into little bows.

This workshop was ~2 hours long, cost $110 ($124.30 after tax) and was super fun! I’d never made a wreath before and love how mine turned out, it is on my door already 🙂

Cheers!

I’m so glad you’re here! What I really hope for with this blog is a creative outlet for myself. Whenever I feel myself getting into a rut with school I try to get creative in the kitchen, get crafting, or get reading and it usually gets me back on track. I also love camping and trying new things so this will be a real mishmash of my life!
