Benjamin Tree Farm

Benjamin Tree Farm

Every year since I can remember my family has gone to Benjamin Tree Farm to cut down our Christmas tree together. It really is one of my favourite family traditions!

Benjamin has fields of cut yourself trees, two barns of pre-cut trees and a barn of ornaments and Christmas decor. Every year while growing up my parents had my sister and I pick out a new ornament and now that I have my own home I’ve gotten to take all mine there for my own tree (which is currently just a skinny fake one as real trees are too expensive for my grad student budget haha).

I love that my family takes a day together to do this every year, we all scout out the best trees, and then hold a family vote. My mum gets final say as we all know she has the best eye!

This year we got out WAY earlier than normal so we didn’t spend as much time hunting for a tree as there were so many prime ones!

Once we find a tree we all take turns sawing, then dad pulls it over to the staff who give the tree a shake to rid it of loose needles, cut off some of the bottom branches so it fits in our tree stand and pull it through the netting so we can get it home with ease. Since the tree this year was so plump it took two staff to pull it through the netting tube, it gave my dad and I a laugh. I helped dad get it onto the car, next year I should make him show me the knots so I know what to do when my husband and I start getting a real tree too haha.

Once we got it home I cleared a space and then dad and my husband brought it in. it practically exploded out of the netting and is now taking up just as much space as my parents dining table. This tree is rotund!

Benjamin Tree Farm is a place I always look forward to going to over the Christmas season. Between this and baking Christmas cookies it is hard to pick a favourite tradition 🙂

Cheers!

I’m Katie

I’m so glad you’re here! What I really hope for with this blog is a creative outlet for myself. Whenever I feel myself getting into a rut with school I try to get creative in the kitchen, get crafting, or get reading and it usually gets me back on track. I also love camping and trying new things so this will be a real mishmash of my life!
